Data sources & attribution

A useful directory starts with transparent sources. Business listings can come from open geographic datasets and manual research.

Overture Maps Places

Physical business discovery uses Overture Maps Foundation Places data. Contributor names and release identifiers are retained with imported records. Overture data describes businesses; it does not verify wholesale eligibility.

Places sources may be licensed under CDLA Permissive 2.0, Apache License 2.0, or CC0 1.0, depending on the contributor. See Overture's attribution and licensing documentation. Retained license texts accompany the project in the licenses directory.

Location lookup

The supported ZIP and city import uses GeoNames postal data under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. GeoNames data is transformed into a location lookup table; coordinates are approximate, not parcel-level positions.

Manual research

Online suppliers are maintained separately using public business information. Verification and shipping claims require evidence links and review dates. Unknown facts are displayed as unknown.

Corrections

Imported records may contain errors or stale information. Report a problem from the supplier profile so it can be reviewed.

Bundled license notices

Copies of the source licenses and full attribution notices are included with this directory: Apache 2.0, CDLA Permissive 2.0, Foursquare NOTICE, CC0 1.0, and CC BY 4.0. HTML source notices are archived as plain text so third-party scripts do not run here. See the transformation and attribution notes.
